Stress, Anxiety, And PTSD Can Worsen Autoimmune Diseases

Stress, Anxiety, And PTSD Can Worsen Autoimmune Diseases

Among Them Are Type 1 Diabetes, Celiac Disease, And Rheumatoid Arthritis

According to studies, stress and other similar conditions, including anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), can have a negative effect on persons with autoimmune diseases, such as type 1 diabetes, celiac disease, and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The study showed that exposure to a stress-related disorder was significantly associated with the increased risk of developing a subsequent autoimmune disease. However, it does not explain why psychiatric reactions to varying levels of life stressors can result in the dysfunction of the immune system. Also, women with PTSD are more likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis than those who don’t have PTSD. Also, depression, anxiety, and PTSD can also decrease the possibility of RA remission. Certain activities and treatments will help treat these conditions, such as psychotherapy, acupuncture, yoga, massage, medication, a proper diet, exercise and physical activity, meditation, and visualization.
